Notes

Location Spring Garden
Date October 6, 2024
Time 12:15 PM
Weather Sunny, 76° F
Notes Leaves are fuzzy
ID Blackhaw (Viburnum prunifolium)

ID determined using Trees of Pennsylvania—A Complete Reference Guide by Ann Fowler Rhoads and Timothy A. Block

Though flowers were present, I used the non-flowering key first. The flowering key seems to lead to the same identification, though it was harder for me to follow because I had to look up new vocabulary.

Tree #2

Notes

Location Spring Garden
Date October 6, 2024
Time 12:17 PM
Weather Sunny, 76° F
Notes Spiky gumballs, leaves aromatic when crushed
ID Sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua)

This one was easy. The gumballs were a dead giveaway, but I followed the key anyway and encountered no issues.

Location Spring Garden
Date October 6, 2024
Time 12:18 PM
Weather Sunny, 76° F
Notes
ID *Pin Oak (Quercus palustris)

*I am not confident in this ID versus similar oaks. The hairiness of the buds is difficult to discern and most were out of reach. No acorns were present either.
